Nick – Royal Navy Veteran

“I walked out of the Lifeworks course smiling. It was a massive confidence boost and I should’ve done it ages ago!”

As a result of 24 years in the Royal Navy, Nick now suffers from severe arthritis and problems with his spine, hips and joints. Nick told us that his chronic pain was slowly wearing away at his personality and mental state, and so he was finding it difficult to find work due to a lack of confidence, afraid of how his disability would affect his employment prospects.

Since attending our award-winning Lifeworks course, Nick has gained a newfound confidence in himself, taking away an improved knowledge of his employability skills such as interview techniques and an ability to respond to interview questions. Lifeworks also helped Nick with tips and support for job searching and identifying key companies of interest.

Nick commented that he had been reluctant to take the first step into support from a charity, but now looks forward to new prospects in his life, stating that he “should’ve done it ages ago”. Our Lifeworks experts pride themselves on supporting every veteran simply by learning about their individual situation and experiences and using that to boost their confidence for new employment opportunities.

Bernard – British Army Veteran

“This training has enabled me to achieve my goals”

Bernard previously served 6 years in the Army before leaving in 2011. He began working for a well-known retail company but was suffering from PTSD and depression following his military service. Bernard’s deteriorating health concerns, unfortunately, led to the loss of his job in 2014; leaving him unemployed for 6 years.

Despite receiving a Masters qualification in 2018, Bernard was still experiencing a lack of confidence, and with no clarity on which job roles he should be applying for.

Our award-winning Lifeworks course supported Bernard with CV writing, interview techniques and practice to boost his confidence as well as employer research.

Bernard states that our Lifeworks course has enabled him to achieve his goals, and that’s exactly what our team of experts provide every veteran following their service in the Armed Forces. Each individual has their own story, and we strive to support them by utilizing their existing skills and experiences to find the perfect employment opportunity suited to them.

Andy – Territorial Army Veteran

“Lifeworks has helped me to find what I want to do and how to get started with local opportunities that I hadn’t thought of. The guys have been fabulous, and really helped me get my CV and covering letter ready to suit these roles.”

Andy Cripps is a 55-year-old veteran with 25 years’ service in the Territorial Army serving in Iraq, Germany, Gibraltar, and Canada. Following his time in the military, Andy suffered an infection in his right leg, and was placed on a period of long-term sick leave from his career as a forklift driver. Unfortunately, the infection resulted in amputation, which sadly brought an end to his career.

Having been unemployed for a year, Andy wanted to find something more than his day-to-day household chores, and soon discovered RBLI’s Lifeworks, attending a one-to-one course in February 2022.

Upon completing the Lifeworks course, Andy told RBLI that he realised he could do so much more than his regular housework, and that there were some great opportunities closer to home than he’d originally thought. Andy told us that one of his key learnings from the course is to “take it one step at a time to move toward a better life”.

The team at Lifeworks provided Andy with ongoing training, helped to find local job opportunities that he was previously unaware of, and supported him with CV and cover letter updates to suit these new roles.
